Reading
Just the other day when I was reading on some tech blogs and I saw a quote from Steve Jobs’ comment on Kindle:
“It doesn’t matter how good or bad the product is, the fact is that people don’t read anymore, Forty percent of the people in the U.S. read one book or less last year. The whole conception is flawed at the top because people don’t read anymore.”
And I start to remember when is the last time I complete a book. Sadly, I can’t remember when was that. To prevent me from being the minority, I better grab something and start reading.
After some consideration and the things I learned from work, I decided to put my focus on site scalability and performance optimization. I picked two books for initial reading:
Building Scalable Web Sites: Building, scaling, and optimizing the next generation of web applications by Cal Henderson
And
High Performance MySQL by Jeremy D. Zawodny (Author), Derek J. Balling (Author)
BTW, I just realized that I once purchased 2G laptop RAM kit from Jeremy D. Zawodny. On our company internal forsale mail list. Not that matters but that happens to be the time I was reading <Code Complete>, which is the latest paper book I read that I can remember, and sadly, I did NOT finish it. It was too long……
